MOVIE APPEARANCES

"Craig Sherman" entry on the Internet Movie Database

Sadly, I'm the second Craig Sherman on the IMDB. The "first" one wrote and appeared in 2002's New Suit. So just to clarify, I'm not that guy.

1. Magma Head (filmed in 2001)

"We're gonna go do it! Amscray!" --The subtle wit of Handome Al, in Magma Head

In the short film Magma Head, I play Handsome Al, who romances cadaverous coed Flurpie (Sarah Williams, pictured above on my shoulder) away from the film's main character, avant-garde filmmaker/serial killer Guymoe (Patrick Casey). The role required me to play the piano, to carry a human being on my shoulder, and to engage in hand-to-hand combat with the aforementioned Mr. Casey, who is a good head taller than I am. The results are hilariously tragic. Or perhaps tragically hilarious.

Magma Head can be found on the DVD of Hey... Stop Stabbing Me!. For more on Stabbing, including where to purchase it, visit the film's home page at AmazingSchlock.com.

From my role in Magma Head, I am now four degrees of separation from Kevin Bacon. Connections made by The Oracle of Bacon at Virginia.

  1. I was in Magma Head (2003) with Patrick Casey (above, left).
  2. Patrick Casey was in National Lampoon Presents Dorm Daze (2003) with Courtney Gains.
  3. Courtney Gains was in Colors (1988) with Sean Penn.
  4. Sean Penn was in Mystic River (2003) with Kevin Bacon.

2. National Lampoon Presents Dorm Daze (filmed in 2002)

I wasn't the villain of this film, or even a character. I got to participate in the Hollywood rite of passage that is... being an extra. I was essentially background dressing for this scene, but I felt, hey, any exposure is good exposure. To that end, I offer a breakdown of my appearance, as it were, in the first chapter of the unrated DVD. I think I'm in the same spot--but I'm not sure--on the R-rated version, but what are you doing getting an R-rated version when there's an unrated version, anyway?

The scene, in which I'm standing at the base of the stairs in the dorm lobby, begins on the unrated DVD at 00:03:54. Below is the Zapruder-esque examination of my subtle, nuanced, wordless performance as a distant cousin of Handsome Al (same black blazer!) in the film.

00:04:16 - There I am, leaning against the wall. Pretty solid, so far. Me, not the wall. Also in the shot (from left): Danielle Fishel, Paul Hansen Kim, and Jennifer Lyons.

00:04:23 - If ever there was a perfect example of why the widescreen version is better, it's that sliver of my back and the back of my head in this shot. In the pan-and-scan version, I would certainly be cropped out of the frame in favor of something as trivial as the film's star, Cameron Richardson (pictured, in full, above).

00:04:28 - Looks like it's time for me to go! Hey, I wonder where these stairs lead...

00:04:30 - And away I go! Hey, these stairs lead nowhere! LIES! LIES!!!! (and that's Edwin Hodge, standing.)

COMING SOON:

My follow-up to Magma Head, playing nervous roommate Arvin in the latest Amazing Schlock opus, Sledgehammers at Dawn.

Arvin recalls the sage advice of his new best friend, William (director Worm Miller, above in the oval), in Sledgehammers at Dawn.
